How much does a small business website cost?
The short answer
In Australia, published prices we found for a small business website build ranged from A$599 + GST for three pages to A$3,500 + GST and up for a studio’s starter package. Looking after it costs extra: published care plans ran from A$49 to A$340 a month.
A site builder such as Squarespace costs A$24 to A$149 a month, but you build it yourself. Some providers fold the website into one monthly fee with no build cost.

What changes the price?
The number of pages and who keeps the site up to date move the price most.
- 01How many pages you need
Packages are priced by page count. Small Business Web Designs list A$599, A$899 and A$1,199 + GST for 3, 5 and 8 pages. A page for each service and each area you work adds up quickly.
- 02Who writes the words and supplies the photos
If you write the copy and send real photos of your work, the build is quicker. If the designer writes it, expect to pay for that time.
- 03Forms and booking
A quote form that asks the right questions, or online booking, is more work than a contact page.
- 04Hosting, updates and speed
After launch someone has to host the site, update it and keep it fast. Lollipop Creative’s care plans run from A$90 to A$275 a month + GST, with 3 to 12 hours of support a year.
- 05Changes after launch
Ask how changes get made. Help4BIS’s A$99 a month plan (ex GST) includes one hour of content edits a month. Check whether changes are included or charged separately.

Who owns the website?
Ask before you sign: the domain should always be yours.
- 01Your domain
The domain should be registered in your name, even if someone else looks after it for you.
- 02The website itself
Ask who owns the design and the code, and what happens to them if you leave. With us, we build and own the website, which is how there’s no build fee.
- 03If you leave
With us, you can keep your website live on hosting alone for A$199 a month, or take your domain and go.
What should you get for the money?
Whatever you pay, a small business site should do these things.
- A call or book button on every screen.
- Pages that load fast on a phone.
- A page for every service and every area you work.
- Real photos of your work.
- A quote or enquiry form that asks the right questions.
- Your domain registered in your name.
- Someone to make changes when you ask.
Red flags
If you see any of these, ask more questions before you sign.
Your domain registered in someone else’s name
Your domain is your address online. It should be in your name, whoever looks after it.
A build price with nothing after launch
Ask who hosts the site, who updates it and what that costs each month, before you compare build prices.
A long lock-in before you’ve seen anything
Check the minimum term in writing. A long contract up front protects the seller, not you.
No clear way to get changes made
Ask how a change gets done and what it costs, whether it’s new hours or a new page.
Fine on a laptop, broken on a phone
Plenty of customers will look you up on a phone. Check the site on yours before you pay the final invoice.
Where SEOrted fits
We build a multi-page website with no build fee, host it, look after your domain, make changes when you ask, and run your SEO team for Google and AI answers, all in A$749 a month. See how the website side works.
The trade-off, said plainly: we build and own the website itself, which is how there’s no build fee. Your domain is always yours. If you’re a bigger business with your own marketing team, a studio build will probably suit you better. See what’s included in A$749.
Questions people ask about website cost
How much does it cost to have a website built for a small business?
Published prices we found in Australia ranged from A$599 + GST to A$3,500 + GST and up.
Small Business Web Designs start at A$599 + GST for three pages; Have A Look list A$995 to A$2,795 including GST and hosting; Pink Fig Creative start at A$1,999; EG Solutions start at A$3,500 + GST, and from A$6,500 for bigger builds.
What is the average cost of a website design in Australia?
We didn’t find a reliable published average. The price depends on pages and who does the work.
Airtasker’s cost guide puts a small business website at A$2,500 to A$5,000, but it was last updated in December 2023. business.gov.au gives planning advice but no prices.
Is Wix or Squarespace cheaper?
We could confirm Squarespace’s Australian prices, but not Wix’s.
Squarespace costs A$24 to A$149 a month billed monthly, or A$17 to A$109 a month billed yearly. Wix’s pricing page showed US reference prices when we checked, so compare both in Australia before you choose. For an online shop, Shopify starts at A$56 a month billed monthly.
Can I build my own website?
Yes, with a site builder. What you give up is your time.
A builder gives you the tools. Writing a page for each service and area, keeping it fast and getting it found on Google is still up to you.
